Editing
Unless otherwise specified, for all edits I use Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature. My standard reference materials are The Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. All edits are made within the author’s style and voice in mind.
No matter which type of edit is selected, the client can expect comments throughout their manuscript, a summary of those comments in paragraph form, and thirty minutes of post-edit consultation by phone or email.

A content edit assesses the manuscript on a macro level.

Line Editing
back to topLine editing is in between content and technical edits. It keeps the big picture in mind by examining dialogue, flow, character arc, plot, and consistency while at the same time zooming in to examine the work line by line. This includes checking things like readability, flow, repetition, word choice, consistency, name changes, transitions, and if any scenes should be added/removed.
To receive a line edit, request a heavy copyedit with line editing.
Technical Edits: Copyediting and Proofreading

A copyedit is the type of editing commonly thought of when people say they need an editor. Copyediting zeros in on a manuscript on the micro level.

- • confusing or potentially offensive phrases

The proofreader is typically the last set of eyes on a clean manuscript when it is typeset with the correct fonts, margins, etc. Proofreading fixes irrefutable errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and word usage.
Copyedit versus Proofread
A manuscript must be copyedited before the final proofread. If your manuscript has already been copyedited by another editor, I am more than willing to do a proofread. However, if a previous editor left many errors (such as not following The Chicago Manual of Style, etc.), I reserve the right to charge my copyediting rate rather than my proofreading rate.

My Editing Rate: $25 per hour
OR $0.018 per wordI charge based on the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) median rates and offer significantly reduced prices.
*Please note my rate may increase for manuscripts with a high error count. If the rate needs to be modified, it will be discussed before the contract is signed. I will never change the rate without your knowledge and agreement.
